Corey Lee is an award-winning writer, director and producer based in Calgary, Alberta. His work has screened on Netflix, Amazon, CBC’s Documentary Channel, Bravo, Omni, Movie Central, CMT, Telus VOD and CCTV China.
His dramatic feature, Defining Edward (2003), launched at the ReelWorld Film Festival and was an official selection of the Calgary International Film Festival. He has also crafted a variety of dramatic short films, including his kilter trilogy. The Perfection of the Moment (2006), What You’re Ready For (2007), and In Translation (2008) were adapted from the Giller Prize nominated collection, Kilter: 55 fictions, by John Gould. Other narrative works include Armour for a Boy (2010) and the experimental drama Awaken (2011).
His feature documentary Legend of a Warrior (2012), a co-production with the National Film Board of Canada, premiered at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival and was released theatrically across Canada. His recent non-fiction work includes All the World’s a Stage (2018), Rare Mettle (2017), a portrait of Canadian Paralympic athletes and The Harder I Fight (2014-2016), a limited series focused on women in combat sports. Corey’s latest scripted work is the digital series Realization (2019) which follows an ambitious trailblazer who starts a business that provides made-to-order relationships.
Corey attended the Alberta College of Art and Design, graduated from the Film program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and is an alumnus of the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He has taught film, video and writing through a variety of organizations, including: the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, EMMedia, NUTV and the Quickdraw Animation Society.
